At ExRDS, I realize that the global health of marine ecosystems is not only critical to life on Earth, but also necessary for the success of the dive industry as a whole. With that knowledge I am committed to being part of the solution, and will continue to encourage others to do the same for generations to come.
My philosophy applies a conservation-oriented approach to training, travel and life. I have adapted my teaching style to use e-learning whenever possible, and follow that up with supplemental classroom sessions to emphasize the knowledge most important to diving. I incorporate e-learning in an effort to consume less paper, which destroys forests and valuable animal habitats. The primary goal was to find a way to consume less training materials and liability forms, while still protecting myself and delivering superior training. I still have work to do, but I'm on my way to a more sustainable future. Please switch your sunscreen and body care products to "Reef Safe" products made by Stream2Sea. Many body care products and sunscreens have harmful chemicals in them that over time make their way into our rivers and streams, and eventually end up in the ocean. In addition, I prescribe to a vegetarian diet in an effort to eliminate the negative impacts that a meat based diet has on the plant and our health. ExRDS is also working to eliminate single use plastics from the business and personal lives. Try to avoid using plastic bags at the grocery store. Instead, either bring your own reusable bags, or just put the items back into the cart after you pay and bring the cart out to the car. Stop getting straws and foam to-go boxes when eating out. Bring your own reusable Tupperware containers to put any left overs in, and try to support the establishments that are eliminating single use waste from their business models. I carry a reusable Nalgene water bottle everywhere I go instead of purchasing plastic water bottles. These are just a few of the ways we can work together to protect what we love so that future generations will have the opportunity to experience this planet in all it's beauty. If you are interested in learning more about the underwater world from a dive professional that is passionate about the ocean and its inhabitants, then you're at the right site.
